Why Brainspotting Seems Like Magic

I wanted to delineate some of the extraordinary transformative and healing experiences I have witnessed in therapy using Brainspotting Focused Mindfulness, to share what is truly possible with this simple but very deeply healing neuro-experiential modality.

Here are a few examples of the magic that can occur. A person who(se):

  • forgave his physically and abusive parent (within one session);

  • migraine decreased in intensity during the session;

  • felt he is now able to feel safe connecting with others for the first time;

  • inner child felt connected to, supported and loved;

  • was able to accept the infidelity of her partner (rather than end her marriage);

  • was able to see decreases in her chronic pain levels within her body;

  • fear-thoughts went from overwhelming, to him conquering his fears to experiencing a reduction in frequency and intensity of those thoughts, which led to positive behavior changes;

  • processed deep emotional pain from her trauma in childhood;

  • attained his goal of book publishing;

  • was able to connect with Spirit on a deep level to feel a healing presence;

  • high level of unjustified guilt decreased to almost none;

  • experienced fear of driving, to now being able to feel safe and even drive on freeways;

  • got clarity and insight on her prior relationship patterns, to now create a shift;

  • shifted from constant competitive and racing thoughts, to attain a clear and concise goal and step-by-step plan to feel calm within;

  • had been perpetually self-judging, to become more gentle and compassionate with himself;

  • experienced deep inner-child healing;

  • was able to reconcile deep inner conflict between parts of himself; and

  • now has a resource spot to go to at any time when needing to feel more, calm, safe and grounded.

With Brainspotting, know that you can:

  • process deep unhealed emotions;

  • shift deeply intrenched thoughts;

  • change behaviors that would have seemed unmovable;

  • increase motivation levels, never thought possible;

  • attain meaningful goals;

  • create possibilities;

  • connect to a higher power in new and different way;

  • develop and feel deep resourcing and support;

  • practice “self-spotting” on your own toward your personal goals; and

  • resolve inner conflicts.

In my personal therapy work via Brainspotting, I have:

  • processed deep emotional pain;

  • reconciled conflicting parts within myself;

  • have done inner child healing workl;

  • have used body spotting to reduce physical pain; and

  • gained huge insights and have experienced transformative “a-ha” moments.
